Organizational Culture
The software company employee that I interviewed indicated that their company values loyalty and a dedicated work ethic.
There are no set work times when employees must be in the office; there is just the expectation that employees will complete assigned tasks. Employees can come to work at any time and leave at any time. Because this company trusts its employees to be honest and to work hard, the employees are generally very loyal to the company. Professions dealing with technology often have the gender stereotype that employees are mostly male. This holds true in the company I studied. Most of the software engineers and IT department employees are males. They have a few females who work in sales and marketing. There is no dress policy. Most employees dress very casually and some wear shorts, tee shirts, and sandals to work every day. The physical layout of the company includes a few office spaces and many, many cubicles. However, the cubicles have low wall/partitions, and employees are encouraged to work together to solve problems. Employees are encouraged to offer suggestions and to come up with ideas for improvement and product supplementation. Salary for software engineers is generally generous. There are no salary bonuses in the company that I talked to. |
